World Class Research Program at Sungkyunkwan University Department of Interaction Science

Department of Convergence Studies for World Class University project

The World Class University project is a higher education subsidy program of the Korean government, which invites international scholars who posses advanced research capacities to collaborate with Korean faculty members and establish new academic programs in key growth-generating fields. The Department of Interaction Science at Sungkyunkwan University is the only social science field selected in the WCU project in first round.
What is Interaction Science?
Founded upon a generous grant program towards building world class universities (WCU) of the Korean Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, the Department of Interaction Science (Chair: Dr. Donghee Shin) at Sungkyunkwan University focuses on human-technology interactions from interdisciplinary approaches of social sciences, engineering, and art/design. The Department focuses on HCI (Human-Computer Interaction), HRI (Human Robot Interaction), and DMC (Digital Media & Contents), investigating users of and technologies for IT products such as robots, mobile technologies, human computer interfaces, digital media, and games. Based on our multidisciplinary approaches, we aim to provide products’ concepts, design guidelines, and actual technologies for diverse ICT products.

Secure knowledge competitiveness of the future Korea

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology acknowledges our department’s potential in contributing to national, social and academic development. Sungkyunkwan University and the Korean government work closely together to enhance national competitiveness in inter-disciplinary studies that consolidate the fields of social sciences, IT information technology, engineering, and design. Students will have opportunities to collaborate with world-class scholars and enhance both educational and industrial competitiveness in their fields.
Application of Interaction Science?
Our department focuses on investigating users of and technologies for ICT products such as robots, mobile technologies, human computer interfaces, digital media, and games. Based on our multidisciplinary approaches, we aim to provide products’ concepts, design guidelines, and actual technologies for diverse ICT products.

World-Class Faculty at SKKU Interaction Science

The greatest strength of SKKU Interaction Science is its faculty consisting of top-class faculty in the world that are leading IT research and industry in their respective fields and distinguished by their active commitment to academic research, excellence in teaching, and the highest level of services. Their fields include cognitive science, computer science, engineering, communication, information science, and psychology. We have one endowed professor, three university distinguished professors, two directors of national research institutes, and two elected division chairs of prestigious academic organizations. The faculty are also a team of close-knit, supportive colleagues whose esprit de corps and intellectual gravity invigorate each other on a daily basis.
